Johnny (b. 1985) is part of a trend of young photographers such as: Brook Shaden, Erik Johansson and Casane, using photoshop to create surreal images. While creating images in the tradition of the Surrealists photographers such as: Man Ray, Salvador Dali, Lee Miller and more recently Sandy Skoglund. Johnny's style differs in that it is an east meets west brand of surrealism.
Somewhere between eye candy and mind candy is where the artist wants his work to live, and his process is all about finding that balance. While in science we use photography to better our understanding of our physical world, as an artist, Johnny is using photography to better understand our emotional and spiritual world.
Johnny Tang (b. 1985) is a fine art photographer specializing in a surreal and cinematic brand of imagery. Johnny began his creative career as a break dancer, before going on to receive his BFA in photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Johnny's recent exhibitions include: Cansancio at Good Dad Studios, Black & White International Photography Exhibition at Independent & Image Art Space, Chongqing, China, Portrait at The Chateau Gallery, and Emerging Artists 2024 at Bluespace Gallery, Guadalajara, Mexico.
Johnny has been published both online and in print including features in: NPR, Daily Mail, VSCO, and Neocha. Johnny also works commercially, having shot for clients such as Climate Overshoot Committee, Red Bull and Sony Music.
Tang (b. 1985) is a collected artist who has shown and published all over the world. Exhibition highlights include: New York, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Boston. He has been published by the likes of NPR and Neocha, and is included in the private collections at Harvard University.
